Yeah. I dont buy into the mysticism. It may be for some people, but I rather be skillful than mystical.

I agree. Although I have some altercation of other methods thought to or used in reality based situations and said goes for martial myths, legends, and glorification.

Can you provide some context- perhaps the surrounding three paragraphs or so? Do you have any other instances in the same text of that precise term- "real techniques"? That's often extremely helpful in figuring out difficult terms in texts translated from a foreign language.

As far as I am concerned Ki really is just a mentality

All those so called Ki tricks are just based in bio mechanical principles and some bravery.

The key to everything is continuity achieved by discipline.

Surrounding Paragraphs?...Hmmm...Ueshiba Sensei Never really wrote anything down. Most of his teachings were passed on by mouth.

You said this was an except from a book. I assumed the book was by Ueshiba- I suppose I was wrong. Was it presented as a contextless, single-line quote from Ueshiba in the book, or was there more to it? Were there any other direct quotes from Ueshiba that used that same term, 'real techniques'?
