sensei8 Posted November 17, 2009 Author Posted November 17, 2009 Martial arts sarcastic poetry?Yes, this does seem to be a fine piece of satire. Unfortunately, like any decent satirical commentary, its sting comes from truth. Though exaggerated, it does illustrate the effects of allowing tradition to take the driver's seat. Thank you for sharing this, sensei8. Where is it from? Black Belt Magazine January 2010 issue. **Proof is on the floor!!!
bushido_man96 Posted November 19, 2009 Posted November 19, 2009 This hasn't been my experience, but I think it is the experience of many. Not to say that traditions don't have a very important part within martial arts, as I think knowing where the art you study has come from provides valuable insight, but it's also important to understand it's applications both in everyday life and in a self defense situation in modern society.Good points here.As for Wagner's quote, I never really fealt that way when training. I feel like I had a pretty good idea that I wouldn't be facing any of the weapons that he mentioned, and my dad had always instructed me in the art of "keep you damned hands up!" https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
