RichardZ Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 Congrats...those years are the amount of training?
Dan Anderson Posted November 12, 2009 Author Posted November 12, 2009 Yes. They all started out in the juniors class and worked their way into the adult's group. It is not unusual for it to take 5 - 7 years to get to first dan in my school.Yours,Dan Anderson
RichardZ Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 (edited) Please don't misunderstand my question, 5-7 years training seems to be the right course is what I was thinking and why I was asking Edited November 12, 2009 by RichardZ
Dan Anderson Posted November 12, 2009 Author Posted November 12, 2009 Nope. That is how I took the question. No harm, no foul.Dan Anderson

Ichi_Geki Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 Is your American Freestyle Karate in conjunction with the school in Wisconsin Rapids?
Dan Anderson Posted December 3, 2009 Author Posted December 3, 2009 Is your American Freestyle Karate in conjunction with the school in Wisconsin Rapids? No, it isn't. A student of mine (Tom Levak) coined the term for what I do back in a magazine article roughly 1977. I then wrote a book using that term (American Freestyle Karate: A Guide To Sparring Unique Publications) in 1979. It was published in 1980 and is still in print. Although it is the formal name for what I teach others have used it more as a generic term for American Karate. There is a group in Southeast USA that is AFK as well. The Wisconsin group might be using the book as a guide or might not. I don't know.Yours,Dan Anderson
