isshinryu5toforever
Haha, some movies stand up, others don't. Think about the original Karate Kid. It looks kinda cheesy now. The production values in classic movies like Cool Hand Luke aren't the same as they are now, but I sure can't wait to show it to my kids when I have kids.As far as the Ip Man series in general, you're going to have to remember who they're for. The first one is easy to watch for people from Western countries because they've seen the Japanese demonized in their own movies. In Ip Man 2 a Westerner is demonized. He is shown as being highly disrespectful and quite racist. The portrayal may be difficult for some people to swallow unless they remember that the Ip Man films were made to celebrate a Chinese hero for a Chinese audience. He who knows others is wise. quinteros1963
There is a prequel out as well. I have not watched it yet. The past is no more; the future is yet to come. Nothing exist except for the here and now. Our grand business is not to see what lies dimly at a distance, but to do what's clearly is clearly at hand...Lets continue to train! Masahiko
Really great movies - a great add to any budo's collection. Although I would avoid the "prequel" that doesn't star Donnie Yen - it paled in comparison Top Contributor athttp://www.japaknees.co.uk/The Academy of Martial Arts Knowledge

Truestar
I knew there would be a topic on this, and I haven't been to this forum in a couple years. I love both Ip Man and Ip Man 2, for those of you who saw "Ip Man 3", yes it is a prequel. But I just read an article today in school that the 'third' Ip Man is a possibility, and will center around Donnie Yen as Ip Man, and his teachings to Bruce Lee. So hopefully we will see another movie with Yen in it. http://www.jaynestars.com/news/donnie-yen-to-film-ip-man-3-in-3d-featuring-bruce-lees-story/
