Do you prefer your black belt to fray?

I've just been a black belt, and I'd prefer my belt to fray, to see how much effort I've spent

I can't say I prefer it but I don't mind it. I do like it when the belt breaks in and the knot holds nicely and if it fades or frays, so be it.

I agree I like the belt to be broken in and not have that "first wear" look to it but I don't like the look belts get when they start to fray.

Doesn't a worn and frayed belt show experience, longevity and dedication?

Its like Judges in british courts, the more moth eaten and tatty their wig is, the most senior and respected they are.

The more you train (and tie your belt) the more seasoned you are in the art.
