shorin
hello,i need your opinion about buying new black belt:what do you think is worth buying and why:Tokaido's belt or Hirota's belt ?thank you very much
jaddensinn
I bought a tokaido extra wide, extra thick satin (http://kuroobiya.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=5_9&products_id=63) when I reached shodan. Very nice belt with a great shine to it which I wanted, belt was really stiff at first but after a year of training it has broken in very nicely. Not sure about hirota though I hear they're nice as well. A tokaido satin or silk will fray very easily as it breaks in so keep that in mind if that's something you want/don't want. Hope that helps. IcemanSK
A few years ago, I asked the same question on this same board. Several folks said "Eosin Panther was the way to go." I have 2 of them & I couldn't agree with them more. It's a very high quality belt. The embroidery is outstanding....& it's all made in the USA. EosinPanther.com Being a good fighter is One thing. ps1
Mine's Tokaido. But I must admit the only others I had were century. So I don't have much to compare them to. I don't like them thick and I don't get them embroidered. So I didn't need anything fancy. It did fray quicker than I expected though. JusticeZero
My understanding is that most Americans consider their belt fraying rapidly to be a bonus, strange as that is to me. Was the fraying cosmetic? "Anything worth doing is worth doing badly." - Baleia

Was the fraying cosmetic? It gives you that EXPERIENCED look.IMO it's just plain silly, but everyone has their preference. For me I'd want a belt that holds up and lasts. Which kind of embroidery do you prefer? the kind that shows on the back? Or the kind that doesn't?, with the kind that doesn't show on the back, the belt stitching goes over the embroidery on the front. It's a kind of win/lose situation.2. Cotton, yeh definitely look for a nice quality cotton3. What kind of finish do you want? Shiny? slightly shiny?
