redhawk44357 Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 i'm new here and am looking for ideas for a target dummy of some sort for my stick work. i carry a cane and am looking at defensive uses of it. i also am interested in arnis, so my dummy will take a beating. any help will be appreciated.
joesteph Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 This was done a long time ago, Red Hawk. . . . I went to a carpet store and purchased a roll of the soft material that goes under the carpet. I used duct tape to keep it rolled, and put a uniform jacket on it. I can't remember what I did regarding the arms, but whatever stuck out the bottom was, to me, the legs.It was suspended from the ceiling with a hook that went into one of the beams, not really being heavy because it was mostly composed of that soft undercarpet material.I gave it a lot of wallops with my hands, was easier on it with kicks (basic ones), and remembered never to pull on it, or else I'd be undoing its connection to the ceiling. So long as it was struck horizontally, that homemade "opponent" could do its job.I think something like that can take a good beating with a stick/cane. ~ JoeVee Arnis Jitsu/JuJitsu
the beast Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Here's something I did a while ago. I got a lawn timber and stuck it in a 5 gallon bucket of cement and buried the bucket in the ground, then wrapped the post in foam, carpet padding would work also, and wrapped the foam in duct tape.
