rabid hamster Posted July 11, 2002 Posted July 11, 2002 From what I have read about chi sao/sticky hands, it makes you more sensitive of your opponents movements.. I think. So does that mean if you train in it you'll know what someone's going to do before they do it if it does, then could it help in sports.. let's say volleyball. because you'd know where the balls gonna go. lol, jus trying to find some ways to make martial arts useful for everydady life. It is only with the heart that one can see clearly, for the most essential things are invisible to the eye.
larryjf Posted July 12, 2002 Posted July 12, 2002 i doubt that it would help in a sport like volleyball. Sticky hands is practiced very close to the opponent, and in volleyball you would be pretty far away. also, sticky hands is to learn to figure out your opponent. The only sports that i think this might help in would be fighting sports like boxing, wrestling, etc.
HarvesterofSorrow Posted July 12, 2002 Posted July 12, 2002 i dont think it would be useful in boxing 'cause you dont stick to your opponent in boxing. I'm no boxer but those jabs seem to be in n' out. Chisao is so you can feel where your opponent is going. You learn to feel where he is sending his energy.
rabid hamster Posted July 12, 2002 Author Posted July 12, 2002 hmm, coudln't you kinda move with the boxer tho? i really have no idea how chi sao is done, sorry if that seemed like a pretty ignorant question. Iron Arahat Posted July 12, 2002 Posted July 12, 2002 Sticky Hands can be utilized in breaking down an attackers defense, pull them off balance and so forth. It works in Kickboxing to a degree (it is alittle hampered by the gloves), but still works. HarvesterofSorrow Posted July 12, 2002 Posted July 12, 2002 but if you move with the boxer then you would be chasing the hands. Its not always a good idea to chase the hands cause thats not what you're trying to destroy.
-- Posted July 12, 2002 Posted July 12, 2002 Sticky Hands is generally a good excercise for grappling and countering. Along with Push-Hands, it helps build coordination and balance. You don't necessarily have to be in contact with your opponent; just know their range and move through it, keeping them off balance. d-----
HarvesterofSorrow Posted July 13, 2002 Posted July 13, 2002 I never tried push hands. What's that like?
-- Posted July 13, 2002 Posted July 13, 2002 It's...weird. You're pushing and yielding at the same time, develops a great sense of balance. I have absolutely no idea how to describe push-hands in words, but basically, you push one of their hands back towards them as they push one of your hands back towards you. Yin and Yang. This helps in everything from countering to grappling, and develops a great sense of balance and energy conservation. Really fun, too. Try it sometime. d-----
stonecrusher69 Posted July 15, 2002 Posted July 15, 2002 Sticky hands is a bad translation. It is really means sticking hands. To stick to the apponents bridge arms and to intercept his attacks will finding openings in his defense. Chi sao is used for the devoplement of sensitivity to a higher . http://www.youtube.com/user/sifumcilwrath"When the student is ready the master will appear"
