I don't know how much color belt testings are. Dan testings are $60 payed out over the course of the pretesting year. Pays for certificates, embroidered belts, and some higher ranks to come to town for it. (And still some people complain of having to pay a whole $60 dollars)

$60 dollars sounds like it would just barely cover costs.

In California a lot of schools charge crazy exam fees. Dan testing can be $500 to $1000.

Color belt testing can be high as $100.

The association I belong to charges high fees for dan testing....but it's all relative to what you get out of it and what value you place on it.

Chuck, my fees are the same as your own.

Our Tae Kwon DO school charges 80 for "1st kyu" and 100 for 1st Dan. USD. My new training charges nothing until black belt. Then the payment is choice, standard 100 for belt and fee, or more for nice belt, fee, and katana presentation.

Obviously when I get ready to test I'll be saving more than 100 dollars for my new training. :D
