A Black Belt Isn't...

Recommended Posts

It was one of those "nobody caught my mistake until they watched the final footage from the test"

I combined 2 forms, and nobody noticed anything except for the fact I was facing the wron way when it was over. My instructors always say... If you're gonna do it wrong, do it strong! :)

My explanation that I should have posted earlier! :P

We've talked about the mistakes on tests, even bb tests and still passing somewhere else.

It depends greatly on how much weight each system puts on each aspect of the test. Waaay back when I did kata, I botched on real good on a bb level test. Luckily, we've never weighted them much, even when we did them so it didn't throw my final results.

Depends on what you value.

Reasonable enough; the facing meant "hm, there was probably a memory glitch in there, but it was executed solidly and effectively, so that's not so big.." The only reason i'm as picky on getting patterned drills as accurately as I do is because I have people doing them in pairs in range of each other; even then, advanced students can get away with more because I expect them to react to unexpected angles.

To continue.........

A black belt isn't:

*automatically correct in everything they say, think or do just because they are your instructor and you admire them.

Earning a Black Belt isn’t a reason to lose your sense of humor.

well it definintly isn't how well you do kata, many people have lost the true essence behind training in kata and it saddens me

A Black Belt isn't...

- an excuse to slow down training

- telling others you're a master

- the end

- a absolute right to start teaching

- not a excuse not to train with lower ranks

- being embarrassed to get your technique corrected
