Aye, but have sparred many times with this, haven't yet to come across a padded fist that has made it through the cage.

Yes, the bars can and do interfere slightly with your vision at certain angles. It's part of the trade off in it's use. It is a good training tool for certain things, like all safety gear, it has drawbacks.

And on the second part, yes, a mouth piece is still mandatory with its use. As it is with any head gear.

I have found the bar in the boxing "face saver" headgear to be very difficult during any sparring using kicks. For boxing it's great. But you really can't see kicks until they make contact with your melon.

My advice is to spend more money on a mouth piece & significantly less than the one in the OP asked about in the url. A head gear with shield should not cost anywhere near $175. Dentist made mouth pieces are best.
