Just let him keep going and practicing. What's even more important, make sure that he is enjoying it. If he doesn't, then there isn't going to be much heart put into it.

Your son is VERY good at sparring, and that is for any age. However, no disrespect to you or your son but, sparring is not karate to me. It is a game of tag where there is no real Shotokan technique involved. I would like to see his forms and perhaps some one, two or three step sparring. As I said, he's very good at sparring at 8 years old. Just make sure that he's as good at the actual Shotokan techniques. He may already be but you haven't really shown any of that. Cheers

you may watch more videos for him and his brother Omar from my channel @ youtube "mahmoudabdelrazak" they really do techniques .. they are trained to be used to do 3 or 4 maybe more steps at sparring .. some of their techniques are Wayen Otto's techniques.. but I don't know why they didn't show that at the competition ??
