sensei8 Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 "In the event of violation/termination, all certifications must be returned to the XYZ Organization."Can an organization take 'your' certificate(s) away from 'you'?AND/OR...Can an organization reduce 'your' rank? **Proof is on the floor!!!
tallgeese Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 If you belong, I supposed they CAN do just about anything. SHOULD is a different story.Personally, I feel that "no" would be the answer to both. http://alphajiujitsu.com/https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJhRVuwbm__LwXPvFMReMww
isshinryu5toforever Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 They can, but as said before, it would seem like quite the inappropriate thing to do. He who knows others is wise. He who knows himself is enlightened.- Tao Te Ching"Move as swift as a wind, stay as silent as forest, attack as fierce as fire, undefeatable defense like a mountain."- Sun Tzu, the Art of War
bushido_man96 Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 I think that is one of the sticklers in being associated with an organziation. It probably can be done. What they can't take is your knowledge and experience, though. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
sensei8 Posted June 9, 2009 Author Posted June 9, 2009 "In the event of violation/termination, all certifications must be returned to the XYZ Organization."Having read this statement many times emitting from more than one Hombu/Federation/Association, it sounds to me like someone's let the authority go right to their head(s).As Brian's stated quite well...What they can't take is your knowledge and experience, though.I'm of the opinion, once a Shodan, for example, always a Shodan. Way beyond that, once knowledge/experience obtained, knowledge/experience irrefutable!Bow/Heel/Kneel...These times no longer exist, in that, one can't take away what's no longer their's! **Proof is on the floor!!!
sperki Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 I agree that an organization can't take away your knowledge and practical experience, but if you are affiliated with an organization you also represent it. So if you are engaging in behavior that negatively portrays the organization I think they are within their rights to strip your titles / membership.
Tiger1962 Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 I know the one I was affiliated with, I had heard CAN indeed DO that. Like some other posters here, I agree - they can't take away knowledge and experience. Nor, can they enter my home and take my certificate and belt from where I live. They can record or demote anything they want to in their records or files, but I earned what I have, paid my dues, both physical and $$$$$$$$$ and they CAN NOT take THAT from me. Now, whether or not I think its appropriate - well that's a whole other topic. "Never argue with an idiot because they'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience." ~ Dilbert
sensei8 Posted June 17, 2009 Author Posted June 17, 2009 My belt...my rank...Doesn't make me who I am as both a person and a martial artist. No! My belt/rank; are nothing more than platitudes! What's inside of me}heart, mind, and soul} this makes me who I am as a person and a martial artist. You want my certs? You want my belt? You want my rank? Here they are...you can have them. But...my knowledge/experience is MINE!The DMV can take my drivers license and all of its priviledges away, but, guess what? They can't take away my driving knowledge/experience. I'll get a bus pass! **Proof is on the floor!!!

Perhaps that would be more parallel to cutting ties with an association and continuing to train?
