quinteros1963 Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 Have any of you ever heard of Master Van Lenten. I've read quite a bit about him on-line as far as being a pioneer in Goju and Ishin Ryu, studying with the likes of Shinzo, and Higa to name a few and bring what he learned back to the US. His name is known well in the N. East. The past is no more; the future is yet to come. Nothing exist except for the here and now. Our grand business is not to see what lies dimly at a distance, but to do what's clearly is clearly at hand...Lets continue to train!

Van Lenten Scribe Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 I am not a student of Master Van Lenten. He is not actively teaching now. I am a coworker and friend. I see Frank on a daily basis as he is in my office every morning at 7:30 telling stories about his trips. I simply want to help him reconnect with people who know what he is about.
ryanryu Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 wow I didn't expect master Van Lenten's name to pop up here. He's done a lot for the art, but i've seen on other forums and such that there is some controversy surrounding his organization. That being said, I couldnt care less, I've met Master Van Lenten several times and my Shihan was and is one of his students. He's older now, but every time he's visited our dojo he's been really helpful to all the students. He loves goju and karate without a doubt. I think he's a great guy and I owe him a huge debt. “Studying karate nowadays is like walking in the dark without a lantern.” Chojun Miyagi (attributed)https://www.lanterndojo.com/https://karatenobody.blogspot.com/
cathal Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 I haven't met him nor have I heard of him I'm afraid. But that isn't too unusual the MA community of the world is quite large. I'm sure anyone here would be happy to chat with him on this forum.. .The best victory is when the opponent surrendersof its own accord before there are any actualhostilities...It is best to win without fighting.- Sun-tzu

I simply want to help him reconnect with people who know what he is about. When is the next time he is coming to CNY? Regardless of the controversy, he knows Goju. I never met him but have heard much about him from my instructors. There is nothing like his system of Goju Ryu and I am happy to be one of his students, students. SenseiJ Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 My instructor is a student of Shihan Van Lenten and I have had the opportunity to attend numerous seminars that he has taught. Master Van Lenten is very knowledgeable in all aspects of the martial arts. His main style is Goju-ryu but he has also trained in Shorin-ryu and Isshin-ryu and incorporates these styles into his teaching. He was stationed in Okinawa while in the military and had the opportunity to learn from some of the best martial artist of the time, including Seiko Higa, Seikichi Touchi, Meitoku Yagi, and Masanobu Shinjo all of Goju-Ryu, Eizo Shimabuku (Shorin-Ryu) and Tatsuo Shimabuku the founder of Isshin-ryu. He is a great instructor and if you ever get the opportunity to train with him I hihly reccommend it.
