sensei8 Posted June 3, 2009 Author Posted June 3, 2009 Disciplines which are officially approved and recognized by the Dai Nippon Butoku Kai are the following: Karatedo This appears to be a very generalized label, imho. Therefore, any and all Karate falls under this category. Many schools would be affiliated with, or heavily influenced by, one or more Karatedo styles. What do you all think? **Proof is on the floor!!!
ps1 Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 I would estimate that the vast majority of martial arts schools fall under no certifying body at all. They art just martial artists who knew their art (and hopefully have an affinity for teaching) and pass it on. "Certified" or not, he still has the knowledge and can teach it. bushido_man96 Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 The main issue that we have run into here is caused by that little thing we all call RANK!This is where I go off on my little tangent about the advantage of styles that don't use ranks: Wrestling, Boxing, Muay Thai, Jeet Kune Do, etc. These guys are truly liberated; they don't have to worry about what level that they can teach up to and certify up to. If they know it, they teach it. And that is that. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
sensei8 Posted June 4, 2009 Author Posted June 4, 2009 I'm a Karateka and I'd like to think that I too am liberated from 'rank' because I don't EVER put rank before knowledge! Rank has its purpose, yet, I learned along time ago that 'rank' must be PUT IN ITS PLACE! When rank is as or more important than knowledge, it's time to walk away, until that practitioner CAN put rank in its place!Over the years I've suspended/expelled students of mine who became "ruled" by rank; knowledge wasn't that important to them any more! **Proof is on the floor!!!
