You should try another system. It might really add a great dynamic part to your teaching!

Martial arts training is 30% classroom training, 70% solo training.

Thank you for your response.

How many techniques, from how many systems, would be adequate in a physical confrontation; normally lasting a few seconds? Its not the array of techniques that matter; but superior execution.

That's a hard question to answer. I have seen fights end with one punch before and then a whole fight that started standing and moved to grappling and back again....I worked the door at a bar for years and have seen and been in fights that vary so much its hard to say if one move or one set of moves will do it!

Oh, and I took up Judo, Aikido, Kendo, Sambo, Jiu Jitsu and other arts from China to try and find answers to real fight situations and I can tell you now...way to many variables. I stuck with Karate because it seemed to have the most answers.

I'm a 17th Degree - I've been in Martial Arts over 20 years so I'm just a Blackbelt

I'm one of the few that's not really that concerned about "Rank" I don't allow Dan bars in my Dojo so no one will be able to flash the x amount of bands on their belts.

I had one student take 8 years to get to Shodan, another took only 4. I had a Shodan wait 3 years before taking Nidan, so it's nothing to do with minimum time in mine.

In some schools you can be a blackbelt in 18 months, in others it could take 10 years.

I get disheartened to see 40 year old 10th Dan's When most in Yudansha Japan are in their 70's before they get 10th Dan

It took me 8 years to get to Shodan in Shorin Ryu, then another 4 to get to Nidan.

I hold a 3rd kyu in the Shotokan style and a 6th kyu in Shukokai.

Look to the far mountain and see all.
