whess Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 Haha, everyone seems to know so many more katas than me. Ive been practicing Isshinryu for about 5 years and all I know is,SeisanSeiuchinNaihanchiWansuChinto
bushido_man96 Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 Well, its not necessarily quantity, but quality that counts. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
ryanryu Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 I agree with Bushidoman. It depends on how well you know those katas. I think traditionally, though, Isshin-ryu isn't really kata heavy. I know there's only a few goju kata, and my school supplements those with Shorin and Isshin-ryu kata. “Studying karate nowadays is like walking in the dark without a lantern.” Chojun Miyagi (attributed)https://www.lanterndojo.com/https://karatenobody.blogspot.com/

Chuck Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 Well, its not necessarily quantity, but quality that counts.Very true; in our School (JKA) you end up knowing 13-15 katas for your Shodan exam. However, you end up spending 2-3 years at brown re-learning/perfecting the early ones and learning the advanced ones right (i.e. Jion, Empi, Kanku Dai, Hangetsu, etc.)
