miguksaram Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 Are we talking strictly karate katas? If so then:Taikioko - Ichi, Ni & SanWansuTai Ichi GedanAnakuGyakuseiEmpi-shoSeionchinNeifuchinSanchinBasai-daiTai Ichi NekoDahnan-ShoGopai-Sho It takes a big man to cry, but it takes an even bigger man to point at him and laugh
mudansha Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 I guess that depends on how you define "know".Our sensei says one knows a kata when he can perform the kata with confidence, precision and power. When he can perform all aspects of the kata including every uki position in the bunkai. If that is the criterion, then the only kata I know is Taekyoku Shodan. If we are speaking only the kata and not the bunkai and only confidence, precision and power, I feel fairly confident in:Taekyoku ShodanTaekyoku NidanTaekyoku SandanTaekyoku YondanTaekyoku GodanHeian ShodanHeian NidanHeian SandanHeian YondanHeian GodanBassai DaiIf what you mean is I know the moves...but am not up to par with technique, I know the moves to the following kata:EmpiTekki ShodanNijushihoKanku Sho Way of Japan Karate Do Bakersfield, Ca. quinteros1963 Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 Just curious, you and I know many of the same kata, who is your instructor? I know that everything you named is a part of our curriculum. I trained in CNY for a couple of years. Sounds like the Van Lenten line of goju.I know this post is old, but I love kata and couldn't help adding my listSo here goes:SanchinTaikyokuKoshoSeihaGekisai IchiGekisai NiSenki DaiSanseiruSaifaSeienchinAnakuShisochinWansuNijushihoTenshoSeipaiSochinMiyagi SeisanMatsumura SeisanNaihanchi DaiI study Goju, and I know a fair number of these aren't traditional Goju kata but there's still a lot to be learned from them The past is no more; the future is yet to come.
