SlowHands Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 thought i'd chime in with a video i found last week on youtube that mentioned the breathing (although briefly)
Espina Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 I have only seen Mastar Kanazawa performing kata, and the Shotokan katas, never the goju ryu ones.
Kuma Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 Uechi Ryu also does a forced exhalation in their Sanchin kata, though theirs tend to be more hisses than the louder Goju ibuki style.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ESYN8thbFUQ
Espina Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 Thanks Kuma. This confirms what I thought: Goju Ryu has a more forced exhalation than other styles.
Traymond Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 In my experiences I have done only extremely deep ibuki breathing like in the video I posted during Goju Ryu. Uechi Ryu made me feel like a snake, but I love their style. Kyokyushinkai had me doing some of it in the yoi and thats all. but none were as deep as in Goju Ryu. Espina Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 I once heard that this particular breathing is specific to Goju Ryu, but I'm not sure about this
Traymond Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 Im pretty sure it is, now. To fear death is to limit life - Xin Sarith Azuma Phan Wuku
Traymond Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 I would like to know how the whole breathing thing came up though, of all things how did they figure out breathing?... To fear death is to limit life - Xin Sarith Azuma Phan Wuku
