CallMeLuke
I started off in Shotokan Karate, where I gained a brown belt rank. I now study an unnamed personal style of Karate which has its roots in Shotokan but no longer resembles it.

Daisho
Daisho,Out of interest, what weapon work do you do in your school. Daisho = long and short sword - do you practice kogusoku?SojoboAll grades below BB utilize kogusoku/katana and kogusoku/shoto as their daisho. This is to make sure the training has the most relevance to self defense. A lot of our knife techniques come from one of our instructors being a certified Kali master. At shodan your daisho becomes katana/wakizashi and the training becomes much more traditional.

Daisho
i thought you meant kogusuko like a double edged knife, as opposed to a tanto. maybe the japanese term is something different.all our knife training was from Kali, which was taught by a member of local law enforcement. we don't have any traditional japanese knife training in that dojo.
