Shorin-Ryu Karate USA Under the Direction of Grand Master Ansei Ueshiro (that's the full title of our style. We are one and the same with Ueshiro Shorin-Ryu Karate USA but broke off from that organization in 2003.) :

White

1 Green Tip (Ro-Kyu)

2 Green Tips (Go-Kyu)

Yellow (kids only)

Green (Yon-Kyu)

2 Brown Tips (San-Kyu)

Orange (kids only)

Brown (Ni-Kyu)

2 Black Tips (Ik-Kyu)

Black (Sho-Dan)

Hmmm Most styles let you wear all black once your shodan, but I never understood why in judo only the blackbelts could wear the blue gi...it always made me a bit mad...haha

Yeah, but when you order gi's from Shureido they come in a tint of blue, they stay that way till like 2-5 months.

That blue tint is an anti fungal treatment that the material is dipped in to prevent it from getting moldy etc during storage.

My sensei decided to go with a more simple ranking systems.

White (10-7 Kyu)

Green (6-4 Kyu)

Brown (3-1 Kyu)

Black

In this case, are there stripes used to denote what level of the rank the student is at, or are they just plain belts?
