I've talked to someone who studies Aizu (name originating from the island I would guess). Supposedly very old. Sounds like aikido in some ways... sounds like ninjitsu in some ways... a lot of lore incorporated... more of a lifestyle than an art I think (or maybe I should say more like an "art" really should be).

I'm curious if anyone else has ever heard of it... but I don't know enough to give any other input on it.

i find it interesting and agressive fly kicks to the head and stuff. and the self defense moves actually work!! unlike some other MA'z

Thaing--It is a Burmese fighting style that I think Bando is a part of.

I have seen Bando practiced and it seems fairly intense.

The Ancient Art of Spitting (!!)

And some art that was all about beating the crap out of others using a newspaper.

Savate-This is a French martial art that I believe involves lots of kicking. Sources vary on its origins, and range from the 1600s to the 1800s I think. I really don't know much about it, I was just amused that the French had their own martial arts.

Anyone know much else about it? My knowledge of martial arts beyond superficial facts is pretty much limited to Eastern styles.

of the ones I've heard of:

Maharklika Kuntaw - (which I've studied)

comes from the philippines, gets its origins from several systems, 3 filipino, 3 non-filipino primarily.

Pankration (spelling?) - comes from Greece I think.

Krav Maga - I "think" is an Israeli system

There's also a russian system who's name eludes me at the moment.
