With a bo or a jo or escrims I prefer to use hardwood. It seems to help me alot with grip and its good for training strength.

Nunchaku I prefer cord, because sometimes the links "clog" up. And I like ash for those bamboo are good as well, but bamboo can splinter if dropped, and stepping on a bamboo shard is not fun.

Cocobolo Hardwood!!!! Nothing more solid for weapons in the Martial Arts! Cocobolo can be brittle depending on the dense rating; higher the rating the harder the wood. Cocobolo is also a very bueatiful wood when polished! My personal Nunchaku's are made from Cocobolo; they take a beating and keep on ticking. When I demonstrate the power generated from a Nunchaku I use several cinder blocks side by side, and with the Nunchaku's made from Cocobolo; I shatter the cinder blocks with ease instead of the opposite.

Purple Heart isn't so bad either, I have a purple heart Eiku and I love the weight and the density. Not sure how good it would hold up, because its so beautiful I dont let it come into contact with anything else.
