Traymond Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Yeah, and with most martial arts stores they offer cheap wholesale to teachers and schools. Like I can get a nice 12 oz uniform for a student for ten dollars, cheap when your looking at 50 bux a month from one kid. To fear death is to limit life - Xin Sarith Azuma Phan Wuku
sensei8 Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 Whatever the price is that you finally reach...remember it's the Martial Arts and in that...is it truly worth $150 and up per month? Come on! Especially during the economic downturn that we're are dealing with what's more important...needs and wants. For me....it's the needs! California has a high-cost of living and it always will!Oopppssssss...I forgot...ones got to pay the rent/utilities...therefore....high tuition will help one meet/exceed the overhead...my bad!Monthly is the way to go! Ask some here and they'll tell you that I've done many things to help my students and I'll continue to do whatever is necessary to help my students. **Proof is on the floor!!!
Traymond Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 When I was learning Bagua in California...it costed me 25 dollars an hour, so I did not get to study for long. Maybe one week at 2 hours a day, but this guy was amazing. He taught alot in those two hours and he had a way of teaching that made you retain it. If your a good teacher and you can back up your teaching then I guess it would be healthy to charge that much, but for me I cannot afford to charge that much I would be out on the streets. I think for one month 40-60 dollars a month if perfect, anything other 60 dollars thats way to much and its not worth it, unless you have a GREAT job. Kuma Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 Cali was super expensive to learn MA when I was there, no doubt. In PA, I'm paying $45 a month for 3 classes a week.

Kuma Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 I sure do, sensei8. In my earlier days, there were three dan-levels and 2-3 kohai in the class. Some days it was just me and the dan-levels. Still more often is just me and my instructor. Great stuff.

Grego Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 I don't pay anything. My sensei teaches me for free (he runs a non-profit Karate organization.)He charges a very marginal testing fee, just to pay for the belts. After all the time I've studied with him, i've paid him maybe 50 bucks.Of course, I also help him run the classes and such. shimizu Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 I have recently relocated to Southern California and am looking into opening a school here. I have also been making some calls and inquiries to continue my own training. The one thing i have noticed is prices are outrageous here in California and I am considering looking for a community center or a public school gym to use and offer a low cost school to allow a lot of kids and adults who might not have the opportunity to train due to the high cost, the opportunity to learn MA.My questions is: since I am going to be using this as a source of income, as well as because I simply love to train and teach, what are some of the pricing structures that you have seen. I am looking at offering 2 options, monthly price for individual and family as well as class block pricing. I have been thinking $75.00 for individual or 125.00 for family, and a 5 class block for 35.00 or 10 class block for 65.00. I have gotten prices as high as $400.00 for families here since I would also have my son continue training with me. I look forward to your feedback.Thank you!they're good prices - especially the 5 class block for $35 - I'm from England and if you convert that to £ - that's more of less the same as the karate prices at my dojo OSS! chiliphil1 Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 I wish prices were like that where I am, I am in middle ga, us. There are a couple of schools close to me, one teaches shorin-ryu they charge $180 per month, per student but once you pay for 2 you can bring as many as you want after that. I stopped by my old school a few days ago, they teach a mix of chun kuk do and tang soo do their rate is $99 per month and half off for each additional student. I WISH there was somewhere around here that did "pay per class" or blocks as the op suggested, I can't go to regular classes due to my job, but it would be ecstatic if I could go when I had the chance and be able to pay like $5 and not have to commit to a contract or a hundred bucks a month for maybe 2 classes.
