I'm looking for some advice out there to those with boxing experience or with a deep dip into it's basics for your training. Has anyone got any advice for either books or training videos that look at foot work and defensive stratagies for boxers? I can look on any web site, and they are all claiming theirs is best. I'm looking for recommendations from the board.

Actually "Complete Kickboxing" by Martina Sprague and Ketih Livingston is a really good all around book, in my opinion.

My money's on Jack Dempsey's "Championship Fighting: Explosive Punching and Aggressive Defense" (1950).

Don't let the copyright date fool you, ShoriKid. He demolished men who had twenty, thirty, forty pounds over him--at 6' and 180lbs. You can't get the out-of-print book for less than $200, but it's available online for free at Scribd:

http://www.scribd.com

In the yellow & white Search at the top, type in Jack Dempsey and you'll see his book come up available for free viewing, with downloading at no charge as an option when viewed. There's a second book, a biography of his fighting days, also available on the same Jack Dempsey selection page.

Download it/them and read on screen; you don't have to print it out, unless you do as I did, just sections I especially wanted to study.

Im not sure about training books or videos but make sure you go to a raw boxing gym thats where they teach you the real stuff!!!!

BE WARNED!!!!

Although the prices are cheap ( like 50 dollars a year or so) There is lots of gang bangers and shady characters the good thing is once you do good against them in sparring they will become friendly to you like brothers but make sure you keep them on acquainted level and not get involve with them on a personal/social level just be nice respectful and let them do there thing outside of boxing and make sure they don't bring any of that gang violence in the gym.

Keep it professional and your all good

It begins with the knowledge that the severity of a strikes impact is amplified by a smaller surface area.

Book-wise, Ned Beaumont has written two fine books on boxing specifically for street fighting which are very informative, packed with good information, and go from your basic footwork and stance to counterpunching, combinations, training ideas, and other solid information.

Are you allowed to stomp?

(Sorry if that's a stupid question, I'm a beginner kick-boxer).

Don't quote me on this but im pretty sure in the early days of kickboxing you were penalised for kicking a man when his knees were touching the deck. So no but im pretty sure the interent should help you out.

The key to everything is continuity achieved by discipline.
