Traymond Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 So they are both sword martial arts, they both use a weapon thats a bokken, but the Korean term is different. They all wear the bogu, once again the Korean term is different.Kumdo is Way of the sword in KoreanKendo is way of the sword in Japanese.Japan took over korea for quite some time, so my question to those who have taken up Kumdo and know about kendo, are they same or differant, I have done some Kendo before and iaido, but never Kumdo. So if someone could shine some light on the style of Kumdo, please do so it will be greatly appreciated. To fear death is to limit life - Xin Sarith Azuma Phan Wuku
bushido_man96 Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 I would guess that there probably isn't much difference between the two. Most swords work the same way, and I imagine that the two are fairly close. I'd say its the Korean incarnation of Kendo. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
Traymond Posted December 4, 2008 Author Posted December 4, 2008 That is about the most used theory by others I asked, and it does sound right. I mean with all wars, the invading countries usually leave something behind them to leave their mark. I find it extremely interesting how martial arts evolve but yet they still keep a sense of tradition in them. Even some of the newer modern martial arts still keep the traditions of past Sensei.
