bushido_man96 Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 Welcome to the Forums. From what I have read on the history of Karate, it was developed for the most part as a civilian-based self-defense system. You could look into research on Tuite or Touidi, or Naha-Te. It also has some Chinese style influences as well, notably White Crane, and I think Chuan Fa, but I might be off there.Jujitsu was more of a combat-based system, as it is the modern incarnation of what was taught to the Samurai for hand-to-hand.I am no Karate expert, by any stretch, but this is what I have garnered from my reading. Others probably have better info for you.I hope this helps out. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
Wa-No-Michi Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 This is not a bad place to start.https://www.wonder-okinawa.jp/023/eng/001/001/index.htmlWNM "A lot of people never use their initiative.... because no-one told them to" - Banksyhttps://www.banksy.co.uk

Where you got the crap beaten out of you every day by your instructors and peers, where you beat the crap out of yourself every day and all day, katas all day every day, conditioning all day every day. The whole deal.
tallgeese Posted November 29, 2008 Posted November 29, 2008 Very nice site, Michi. Even for me . http://alphajiujitsu.com/https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJhRVuwbm__LwXPvFMReMww
Karatefighter Posted November 29, 2008 Author Posted November 29, 2008 Thank you for the great welcome. That is a nice karate website. I bookmarked it in my favorites. Like Judo was first written by K. Mifune titled " Canon of Judo "Any early written karate texts you can recommend that I can buy on Barnes and Nobles or Amazon.com to read in English please ?I am curious. What was the very first book written about karate ?
tallgeese Posted November 29, 2008 Posted November 29, 2008 That's kind of a tough one, and there are probibly better people on thei site to answer it than me. There were plenty of old text about combat, at what point it becomes specifically "karate" is beyond me.You might want to check out The Bubishi, it's an old translated ma text. Pretty good if memory serves. I think it dates back a ways. http://alphajiujitsu.com/https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJhRVuwbm__LwXPvFMReMww
Wa-No-Michi Posted November 29, 2008 Posted November 29, 2008 tg's right really..where do you start? The bubishi pre-dates Karate or at least Karate in its codified form.If its Karate history books you are interested in, then perhaps Harry Cook or Serge Mol might throw up a few positives. Bushi's our resident bookworm though, so he's probably the best qualified. "A lot of people never use their initiative.... because no-one told them to" - Banksyhttps://www.banksy.co.uk
