Shoto4Life Posted October 19, 2008 Posted October 19, 2008 Whats your favorite gi?Please no comments about how other gis are not listed.
jaddensinn Posted October 19, 2008 Posted October 19, 2008 I'm afraid my experience with different brands of gi's has been limited to a lightweight macho and a middleweight century (If I'm not mistaken I believe macho and century are the same company now anyway?). Either way I do like the middleweight century, its pretty comfortable and has been pretty durable thus far. Once I save up some money I might get a heavyweight shureido though as I hear they are quite good.
joesteph Posted October 19, 2008 Posted October 19, 2008 . . . I do like the middleweight century, its pretty comfortable and has been pretty durable thus far.My instructor carries Century, and we talked about how it's easier to clean than other brands. With two seven-year-olds who outgrew the first ones and are on their second set of middleweight gis/dobaks, it pays to have something that you can keep clean long enough for them to grow out of. (I don't want the boys wearing "gray" dobaks!)When receiving a promotion to a new belt color, the belt is by Century. ~ JoeVee Arnis Jitsu/JuJitsu

unknownstyle Posted October 24, 2008 Posted October 24, 2008 KI is the best for the long haul, all of my century gis have lasted me less than a year, my KI has last me a long time, and my instructor has an old stone washed looking one that hes worn for over ten years and he has only had to fix the gusset in the groin area because he had put on alittle weight and i tore when he went to kick "Live life easy and peacefully, but when it is time to fight become ferocious."
Goldtooth Posted November 8, 2008 Posted November 8, 2008 shureido fit the best, however..and ironically, extremely cheap lightweight gis that breathe well are what keeps the florida and south carolina wet heat from killing me during prolonged training.shureido offers half sizes, and their material is substantial, clean, and simply look good.beater gis look like beaters. considering the proletarian roots of MA, i dont let this get in my head much. hence, i wear my 7 dollar gis 90 percent of the time, maybe my 200 dollar jobber a few times a year. crazyferret Posted November 8, 2008 Posted November 8, 2008 Whats your favorite gi?Please no comments about how other gis are not listed.I'm not sure what brand my gi is. We train mostly no-gi. But I have a gi top I use when I go to jits seminars, I think it is an old Judo Star gi top from the short time I took Judo.Judo was fun - and the gi top works fine for jits. white owl Posted November 15, 2008 Posted November 15, 2008 A cheap Gi like karate depot. But I have a heavey weight one that is called Pirhan Gear, I like it a lot just to heavey to wear to work. I wear it for tournaments.
KarateEd Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 I only have experience with Century uniforms but they have always worked well for me. The sizes are just about right and they last for a while. My lightweight uniform lasted through about 5 years of steady training (and few years of not-so-steady training), though it did get thin after repeated washings. My Century heavyweight uniform is still going strong after several years of wear, though it has a "stone-washed" looked to it now (its black in color). Ed
joesteph Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 My Century heavyweight uniform . . . has a "stone-washed" looked to it now (its black in color).Ed, this is a keeper! You must look like an old school warrior when you enter the training hall. ~ JoeVee Arnis Jitsu/JuJitsu
