bushido_man96 Posted October 3, 2008 Posted October 3, 2008 I hope that I get the time to watch. I'll be looking forward to watching Slice fight. He's fun to watch. I also like Arlovski. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
joesteph Posted October 5, 2008 Posted October 5, 2008 (edited) When Gina Carano fought Kelly Kobald, it looked to me like a stand-up fighter vs. a grappler, and each wanted to make the fight "her" fight. They each have to know the "other," that Carano had to work on what to do if it turned to grappling, and Kobald had to hone her striking ability, but it looked like Carano dominated that fight throughout--and it was a unanimous decision.I wonder if they'll change the women's rules to be five-minute rounds like the men, instead of three-minute rounds? When Arlovski fought Nelson, it looked like a bodybuilder vs. an overweight man. I'm sure Nelson wouldn't be in that ring without being a strong fighter, but I don't see how that excess weight doesn't tire him out.I was surprised to find that Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson vs. Ken "The World's Most Dangerous Man" Shamrock changed to Slice vs. a multi-colored hairstyled "Silverback" just tonight. I thought Slice would have made a more powerful showing, and his losing in fourteen seconds was as much a surprise to the winner as the loser. I know that Slice already had a cut over one eye, which I thought was his right eye when I saw them putting on the vaseline, but he was bleeding over his left eye at the end of the fight. Silverback didn't win because Slice had a cut, though; he won because he was pounding Slice into the canvas. That EliteXC show was really filled with MMA action. seersin Posted October 5, 2008 Posted October 5, 2008 ^^^ Actually the weight for the most part really helps big country, obviously not his cardio or standing,But being a brown in BJJ being that heavy his side or full mount would be very tough on ya.Ive seen a few really heavy guys good at jujitsu and it seems to helps when their on top. There are some setbacks to being that big as well. bushido_man96 Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 Nelson was a standout in the IFL, I believe. He is strong, and is known for having heavy hands and a good chin. Arlovski has a lot more experience, though.I thought the Carano/Kobold fight was good. Kobold was tough! She took some solid shots, even some good kicks, and didn't go down. I also liked her strategy of stomping on Carano's feet.I was disappointed with the Slice match. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
seersin Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 Yeah,I wonder whats next for slice. Not a knock on the guy but I don't know who he's gonna fight, any of the more experienced heavyweight strikers will give him problems. ISAIAH 53:5
pittbullJudoka Posted October 7, 2008 Author Posted October 7, 2008 I've been pondering on the same thing who's next. I think Kimbo will have to start fight guys who are lagitmate fighters. I mean he's pretty much fought cans since he started his carreer. He's fighting guys way past they glory days. He first fought Bo Cantrell who was on a four fight loosing streak with and over all record of 10-10 before their fight. His second opppnent was David "Tank" Abbott who had lost four of his last five fights with and overall record of 9-14. Then came James Thompson who had won two of his last five with an overall record of 14-9. So until Seth came along he was fighting older fighters that weren't that good. So to rebuild his reputation and to be considered a ligit fighter he's going to have to fight so good fighters that are pretty good not just big names.
seersin Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 ^^^ Ive been saying this all along and noone wanted to hear me.Again its not Kimbos fault, the media and public but this bad stigma on him, that he was the baddest fighter to ever live, and how he would knockout anyone.I even heard on PTI after the Thompson fight where they said "Kimbo is knocking out everyone"What most failed to realize was he was only fighting guys that were prone to being knocked out.Bo Cantrell Loss Kevin Ferguson Submission (Punches) EliteXC - Renegade 11/10/2007 1 0:19 Loss Brad Imes Submission (Gogoplata) KOTC - Arch Rivals 10/27/2007 1 0:55 Loss Dave Huckaba KO GC 67 - Vendetta 8/4/2007 1 0:05 Loss Dave Huckaba TKO GC 63 - Crackdown 5/11/2007 1 0:26 Loss Tim Persey KO (Punches) Tanks record since 98 Pedro rizzo fight Loss Kevin Ferguson KO (Punches) EliteXC - Street Certified 2/16/2008 1 0:43 Loss Gary Turner TKO (Punches) CR 21 - Judgement Day 4/21/2007 1 2:31 Loss Paul Buentello KO (Punch) Strike Force - Tank vs Buentello 10/7/2006 1 0:43 Loss Hidehiko Yoshida Submission (Choke) PRIDE - Final Conflict 2005 8/28/2005 1 7:40 Win Wesley Correira KO (Punch) ROTR 7 - Rumble On The Rock 7 5/7/2005 1 1:23 Loss Wesley Correira TKO (Cut) UFC 45 - Revolution 11/21/2003 1 2:14 Loss Kimo Leopoldo Submission (Arm Triangle Choke) UFC 43 - Meltdown 6/6/2003 1 1:59 Loss Frank Mir Submission (Toe Hold) UFC 41 - Onslaught 2/28/2003 1 0:46 Loss Pedro Rizzo KO Thompsons last losses Loss Kevin Ferguson TKO (punches) EliteXC - Primetime 5/31/2008 3 0:38 Loss Brett Rogers KO (Punches) EliteXC - Street Certified 2/16/2008 1 2:24 Loss Neil Grove KO (Punch) CR 22 - Hard as Hell 7/14/2007 1 0:10 Win Don Frye TKO (Punches) PRIDE 34 - Kamikaze 4/8/2007 1 6:23 Loss Eric Esch KO CR 20 - Born 2 Fight 2/10/2007 1 0:43 Win Hidehiko Yoshida TKO (Strikes) PRIDE - Shockwave 2006 12/31/2006 1 7:50 Loss Jon Olav Einemo Submission (Armbar) 2H2H - Pride & Honor 11/12/2006 N/A N/A Loss Rob Broughton TKO CR 17 - Ultimate Challenge 7/1/2006 3 N/A Loss Kazuyuki Fujita KO (Punch) ISAIAH 53:5
bushido_man96 Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 We may be making too big a deal out of the Slice loss. I'm not saying that he's the best fighter out there, but what if we match him and the Silverback up 2 more times, and see what the results were? What do you think? https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
joesteph Posted October 10, 2008 Posted October 10, 2008 I'm not saying that he's the best fighter out there, but what if we match [slice] and the Silverback up 2 more times, and see what the results were?I'm for that! I think that the win was so quick, that it actually leaves us in a lurch about a fight that goes for more than one round. They're guys with power and guts; they're not afraid to go back into that ring and see who gets pounded into the canvas--or taps out. ~ JoeVee Arnis Jitsu/JuJitsu
