tiny1408
I have a question about a Gi size. It's a Kwon brand gi and my instructor gave me a size 4 but it is enormousally big. I know they will shrink but I'm only 5'1 and the top goes below my knees and the pants could fit about 3 of me in them... They told me if it was to big to bring it back, which i won't be able to get until next thursday but I was just wondering how much of a difference it would make to go to a size 3 or should i get a size 2...Thanks guys. Tiny, I'm 5'6" and weigh 170. My size? 4. This is far too large; I don't understand why you were given anything that large in the first place. Size 2? Sounds much better. ~ JoeVee Arnis Jitsu/JuJitsu
tenshinka
I'm 6' 1" and 180 lbs I wear a size 5...Although I can still fit into a size 4, the pants are just a bit tight.Kwon seems to run HUGE to me...I had one of there judo dogi once, and I remember it running very large...I would say you are probably a 2 1/2 to a 3 in Kwon sizing...1oo% cotton would shrink though, so I would go size 3...take care,--josh

tiny1408
So I have a question. I got the size 3... It's still slightly big but it will shrink. Am I suppose to put it in the dryer the first time? and then let it hang dry after? I read not to put it in the dryer and then i read to put it in the dryer...TThen i read put it in the dryer but not on hot. the dryers at the university are extremly hot... joesteph
Am I suppose to put it in the dryer the first time? and then let it hang dry after? This sounds safest when you're not sure.I read not to put it in the dryer and then i read to put it in the dryer...Did you read this on the care label?TThen i read put it in the dryer but not on hot. the dryers at the university are extremly hot... Hot's pretty much a guarantee that something will shrink. You're at a university; the dryer I use at home goes by the material (cotton, permanent press . . .). If you're unsure, Tiny, and you think the university dryers are too hot (likely because they get stuffed with a ton of clothing all at once, so they'll be extra-hot to get the job done), go with letting the gi dry by air instead of by a machine that might ruin it. ~ JoeVee Arnis Jitsu/JuJitsu
Tiger1962
I'd be careful with the dryer. I shrunk a uniform that way and now the sleeves are way too short. Mokuso
If you put your Gi in the wash dryer, it will damage the cotton. If you really have to shrink your gi, set your dryer to low heat. If your dryer does not have that setting, I would find a commercial dryer.I have seen Tokaido Gi (not the USA versions, but the genuine Tokaido from Japan), which fell apart after only one year of use (and dry in dryer).Tokyodo International has the option to order a fully tailored and personalised karate gi. These gi cost a little more than your regular premium quality gi, but it will fit like a second skin.
