Harkon72 Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 If you learn where karate goes, you wont need to.Another of my favourites is the original Karate Kid Series, the one liners from Mr Miagi are classic. It's a pity that Daniel San is arguably the most miss cast character in martial arts movie history. Look to the far mountain and see all.
Novicewarrior Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 Enter the DragonKill Bill vol 1 and 2 both have some amazing fight scenesZatoichiDrunken MasterYes Zatoichi! Zatoichi series (the older one) is my favorite series. A religion, when based on faith developed through experience, a broad and questing mind, and an unflagging pursuit of universal understanding, is of inspiration and comfort to people. Once a religion loses its original focus, however, it becomes a deadly thing with which to deceive, control, and tax the people through the manipulation of their beliefs and fears. It is the same with the martial arts. - Toshitsugu Takamatsu
Doomed Posted May 31, 2015 Posted May 31, 2015 As far as strictly Karate movies go, I personally enjoy The Karate Kid and The Karate Kid II. They don't have a lot of action and are a bit formulaic, granted, but I love the sense of balance: Physical and mental discipline are given equal emphasis. Martial Arts, in general? It's tough, but I'll go with the Matrix trilogy. Slickly done action scenes, with an epic arc that makes you think. Pretty underrated, in my opinion.
username19853 Posted March 12, 2016 Posted March 12, 2016 Personally, growing up on Jackie Chan and Jet Li movies, it felt like something special when the Forbidden Kingdom came out. So most, if not all of their movies.I thoroughly enjoy the original Karate Kid.Enter The Dragon is perfect.Love Ip Man 1&2.The only Karate specific movie that had potential and I've seen was something called Karate Warrior. I wish more movies that portray a real style of Karate would come out since there are endless opportunities for an awesome storyline following a Karateka!
Spartacus Maximus Posted March 12, 2016 Posted March 12, 2016 Probably Kuro Obi, aka ,Blackbelt. It is one of those rare movies where the actors are actually genuine martial artist. Both main actors are Dan grade holders with good skills. Although a specific style is not mentioned in the movie, one is trained in Goju-ryu and the other is in Shotokan. As a second choice not too far behind, all the karate themed movies starring Sonny Chiba from the mid 60s to 70s. Sonny China is trained as a stuntman as well as karate, possibly Kyokushinkai.

JR 137 Posted March 12, 2016 Posted March 12, 2016 I'm really not a fan of MA movies. Too many chiches, bad acting, and unrealistic fighting. I have a few I really enjoy however...Karate Kid 1 & 2Dragon: The Bruce Lee StoryThe Last DragonMy favorite MA movie by far is The Last Samurai. Great story line, acting and great MA sequences.Going to stream The Real Mr. Miyagi on Netflix tonight.
Spartacus Maximus Posted March 12, 2016 Posted March 12, 2016 Martial arts movies have an entirely different appeal when one can understand and identify the difference between what looks good on film and how it might look in real life. A few years ago there was a documentary explaining from a martial artist point of view how to adapt techniques for the movies.
IcemanSK Posted March 12, 2016 Posted March 12, 2016 I have a few. Taekwondo-based films. "Best of the Best," & "Spin Kick have great stories to go wth the MA. I also really like the fighting in Billy Jack. For the time, they went outside the box of what was done to add excitement to the fight scenes. Being a good fighter is One thing. Being a good person is Everything. Kevin "Superkick" McClinton
