Doomed Posted May 31, 2015 Share Posted May 31, 2015 As far as strictly Karate movies go, I personally enjoy The Karate Kid and The Karate Kid II. They don't have a lot of action and are a bit formulaic, granted, but I love the sense of balance: Physical and mental discipline are given equal emphasis. Martial Arts, in general? It's tough, but I'll go with the Matrix trilogy. Slickly done action scenes, with an epic arc that makes you think. Pretty underrated, in my opinion. username19853 Posted March 12, 2016 Share Posted March 12, 2016 Personally, growing up on Jackie Chan and Jet Li movies, it felt like something special when the Forbidden Kingdom came out. So most, if not all of their movies.I thoroughly enjoy the original Karate Kid.Enter The Dragon is perfect.Love Ip Man 1&2.The only Karate specific movie that had potential and I've seen was something called Karate Warrior. I wish more movies that portray a real style of Karate would come out since there are endless opportunities for an awesome storyline following a Karateka! Both main actors are Dan grade holders with good skills. Although a specific style is not mentioned in the movie, one is trained in Goju-ryu and the other is in Shotokan. As a second choice not too far behind, all the karate themed movies starring Sonny Chiba from the mid 60s to 70s. Sonny China is trained as a stuntman as well as karate, possibly Kyokushinkai. I also really like the fighting in Billy Jack. For the time, they went outside the box of what was done to add excitement to the fight scenes. Being a good fighter is One thing.
