Zanshin Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 They may not be competing. 70 year old Karatekas don't, either.True Karate is not about competition though. tallgeese Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 True, it's not really about competition. However, most 70 yr. olds can't defend themselves the way that a 30 yr old can. It's the inevitibility of growing old. Our physical systems just don't work as well. For my part, I'm trying to stave that off as long as possible. http://alphajiujitsu.com/https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJhRVuwbm__LwXPvFMReMww

I think it is. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
bushido_man96 Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 Also with reference to the whole Do vs Jutsu thng, this is a very lofty subject.Basically there is a bit of misunderstanding as to the two approaches here in the west. Fundamentally there is no difference between the two. From the reading that I have done, I don't think that this is the case. Neither has every Samurai warrior or Master of old been the most benevolent souls to walk the earth, either. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
tallgeese Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 This is true, I'm certain that we have injected a great deal of romanticisim into the samurai/bushi history. Probibly in much the same way that we have idolized the knights of european history, by and large.I do think that you can certainly deliniate between do arts and jutsu arts, even as they are taught today. Perhaps we can get into lofty ligusitic and historical arguements, but at the end of the day what each school is teaching can usually be seperated between the two fairly easily. http://alphajiujitsu.com/https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJhRVuwbm__LwXPvFMReMww
