ramcalgary Posted June 21, 2002 Posted June 21, 2002 the g-8 summit comes to calgary next week. for those of you who do not know the g-8 is the 8 leading economic countries in the world. there are many people who fear that calgary will have the same problems as seattle vancouver and recently halifax with protesters getting out of hand and destroying everything peaceful protest is fine but the second you break the law and interfere with others you should go directly to jail and not pass go here is hoping that the protests are non violent and everyone gets to say what they came to say ps do not gine me that crap about the police causing all the problems. police have better things to to and dont want to see their home town damaged either Honor is the most important thing a man has once you lose it it is gone forever
Northren Ogre Posted June 21, 2002 Posted June 21, 2002 Calgary hosted a big oil conference about 2 years ago and it was very non-violent, and the police and correctional services were very prepared. However this is a worldwide event and it tends to bring out the wackos. I think the g-7 conference in Halifax last week is a preview of things to come. My advice to all in Calgary is to avoid large crowds and street level clouds. Tear gas really, really burns! http://prkickboxing.tripod.com
Bitseach Posted June 24, 2002 Posted June 24, 2002 Ram - good luck and I sincerely hope that there is no trouble. We in the UK had trouble for the past few years on Mayday as all the "crusties" and their spectators came out en masse trying to destroy things - bloody yobbos! They were disgusting, throwing urine "bombs" at the police and trying to overturn a mobile first aid unit with 5 people inside! I am all in favour of the right to public protest but for me it HAS to be non-violent, non-destructive and I honestly believe that a lot of these anti-globalisation protestors are just thugs looking for an excuse for a smash-up. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~My karma will run over your dogma~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Northren Ogre Posted June 24, 2002 Posted June 24, 2002 I'd like to ask them how does trashing sombodies business put an end to globalization? I belive that thee are people there that really do care for their cause, but the fuggan anarchists always show up to cause trouble. In Quebec City they used slingshots to fire metal ball bearings at police, and then complain that they got gassed.....go figure http://prkickboxing.tripod.com
Bitseach Posted July 2, 2002 Posted July 2, 2002 I agree - I have some sympathy with the protestors' cause but absolutely none with their methods. They are an utter disgrace, hell-bent on destruction and yob-behaviour but trying to dress it up in a noble cause. They are the worst sorts of thug - the sort of people who pretend to be freedom-fighters just so they can rough people up. Ugh! (and it wouldn't hurt them to use soap once in a while) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~My karma will run over your dogma~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Northren Ogre Posted July 2, 2002 Posted July 2, 2002 The G-8 summit was very subdued this round. A total of about 14 ( yes 14) people were arrested with links to the G-8 protests . There were some very bored law enforcement poeple in Calgary this week I guess No one wanted to mess with us Alberta rednecks. http://prkickboxing.tripod.com
