bushido_man96 Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 (edited) I haven't set foot in a dojo since early 2006! I find it it a bit ironic that joining the military has been my biggest stumbling block in furthering my martial education. As a military officer, don't you consider some of what you do Martial Arts oriented? It may not be all hand-to-hand, but it is something. As an Electronics Technician in the Coast Guard I don't very much consider 99.9% of what I do MA oriented. I can't even get approval from my command to qualify for my pistol or rifle ribbon since it isn't really pertinent to my position. I see. That is a bummer. I apologize. Why let the physical dojo be the only dojo you go to? Everywhere should be your dojo.I agree. You can refine many things by taking your training to different places. Yeah, its tough to practice side kicks while walking around at work, but you can practice things like awareness and threat possibilities. Traymond Posted February 9, 2009 Posted February 9, 2009 Yes, I am a jewelry salesperson, for now...just until my sophmore year of college is over, I cannot do alot of the things like side kicks of front kicks or back kicks, but we get three half hour breaks a day, so I usually go out back and practice kata and differant waza. I also do about 50-100 push ups before work starts cause I usually open up in the mornings. To fear death is to limit life - Xin Sarith Azuma Phan Wuku
wanderingbudoka Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 Luckily, I get an hour to work out 3 times a week in the basement of my station after lunch. I really only run or lift weights though. I wish I had a place more to myself to practice kihon and such. I don't like to advertise especially since I'm so much out of practice. Only one way to get better though. Best be gettin' over my insecurities. Not the "Y"!! A good school!!! I gotta learn Karate!!!
Traymond Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 Ohhh, I prefer to practice in private as well. Its no good for one's confidence to go and do something terribly, so I practice it for a loong time before I feel comfortable to do it in front of someone...mostly my girlfriend, haha. quinteros1963 Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 We just added another day so now I am in for 3 and sometimes four days a week (up to 8 hours of training per week). I am seeing a huge difference in my techniques due to the increased reps. I hope my body can hold up. The past is no more; the future is yet to come. Nothing exist except for the here and now. Inya shaolin Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 I only go to karate lessons on Wednesdays... I used to go twice a week, but then got overloaded with homework and other extracurricular activities and had to cut back.^_^ --second degree brown belt, American/Shaolin kenpo karateDeja Fu: The feeling that somehow, somewhere, you've been kicked in the head like this before.
