Holliesc3 Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 I posted a while ago about a kickboxing fitness class I was starting at my school. We figured out how much to charge for it, but I feel I am not being paid adequately for teaching it.I am the Program Director and run the school along with the owner. I am the only employee. I exclusively teach the 3-4 year olds (I program which had 3 kids in it when I took it over. It has more than tripled just a few months.) I currently get 10% commission of their enrollment fee when they sign up, which only amounts to $10. They pay $75 a month, plus a $40 testing fee every three months, and I don't get commission off of any of that.Secondly, I have created the new fitness kickboxing class, which I developed and teach excusively also. He provides the building, but has nothing else to do with the class. I could go and teach it at any gym. The percentage of their tuition I am currently paid is roughly around $4 per class. Not even minimum wage. I am in the process of changing the payment structure of this class from monthly to $120 for 10 classes and want to propose fair payment on my part so it is worth it for me to teach.I am paid a salary, but that amount was established before I started teaching either class. I am concerned I am not being compensated fairly for what I do now. Any thoughts??
blackbelt Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 Yes i would definitly re-talk the agreement. If your the one taking care of the class with no help from him, then you should be entitled to fair compensation. Plus your class is bringing him more buisness, its only fair that he pays you fairly. Give it your best.
bushido_man96 Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 Trying to re-negotiate might be a good idea. It should be worth your time. Before you do so, you may want to start to look around to see what other options you may have. That way, if he tells you no deal, then you can have a head start in looking towards a different place. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
Holliesc3 Posted July 17, 2008 Author Posted July 17, 2008 How much do you guys think would be fair for me to ask for?
bushido_man96 Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 That I don't know. Check with other similar programs in your area, or areas like yours, and see what the rates are. Also, call and ask these instructors as well, and see how it works for them. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
tallgeese Posted July 19, 2008 Posted July 19, 2008 I agree, check with comperable programs in the area. That will give you the best idea. Don't price yourself out of a job, but if it is a job, don't work for nothing either. http://alphajiujitsu.com/https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJhRVuwbm__LwXPvFMReMww
