Do the Martial Arts run in your family?

Recommended Posts

I am the only one I know of in my family that has consistently been involved in MA and attained a BB. My dad trained for a year or so back when I first started in TSD. I had a cousin that studied Yoshikai for a few years around the same time I was studying TSD. It has been 20 years since either of them have practiced, as far as I know.

Dad studied TKD for a long time. He quit a bit after he met my mom, though. My brother and I took it up, and then Mom got into it, so everyone is trained in some style. Gramps was in the military. I think his father was before him, too.

At our dojo there's just a whole bunch of families training together. We have a mom and her three kids; a mom, a dad, and their two kids; my family; a mom and her two kids; a dad and his daughter; dad and his two boys....the list goes on. We refer to each other by our "clans." Hee.

I foud out recently that my uncle took some sort of martial art when he was in the Marine Corps 35(do not know when exactly) some odd years ago, he did not stick with it though, but it starts with me and my husband and 10 year old son(soon to be 11 :bawling: ).

No one else in my family has trained before. I always wanted to but never thought I was good enough or able to.

Somewhat. Military service does (both world wars, Marines, Air Force, Navy, Army), and there were some boxers and wrestlers in there to boot (grandparents and some uncles). My gf is into ma's to boot but I guess you couldn't qualify her as family.

My family's very religious (the kind that frowns a lot on martial arts). :dodgy:

Yet, both my mom and dad did it for 2 months, my brother 1 month so far, and my great aunt got to brown belt many years ago. The religious side of our family knows nothing of what we do. Hee hee hee!
