Ranpu
well I cant really answer this, but because the only one I know is the seisan kata, I guess that is it for now I cannot prevent the wind from blowing, but I can adjust my sails to make it work for me
gensei
favourite five:Gensho ChodanTekki ChodanChintoKempaiNaihanchi...but I could never limit myself to five - I'm at 19 that I can pull off comfortably at will - and with a degree of spirit/power/technique/speed - and always looking for more. Though with recent studies stemming from Abernethy's bunkai that really start to unpack the joint manipulation, throws, locks etc. in various karate kata, I'm concentrating more and more on fewer and fewer kata. ...but I digress...TLL Edited December 11, 2008 by gensei

Erin
I'm still a beginner, so I haven't had a LOT of experience with kata, but as I am learning I am starting to become more familiar.1. Rohai. I love this kata. It has SO totally helped me gain more confidence and become better at holding my balance. I have inner ear problems, and practice the stances in this kata help me tremendously.2. Naihanchi Shodan. Someone said this was easy to learn and hard to master. I agree. The move SEEM simple enough. But I have had difficulty with it.3. The Kihons. Basics, basics, basics. Without them, you can't have good kata.4. Okan. I like the power this kata generates.5. Ku San Ku Sho. I haven't DONE this kata, but I love watching my black belts perform it. My favorite to watch. Traymond
Erin, I also agree with you on that concept about Naihanchi Shodan, which is why its not one of may favorites, well not until I have it mastered..haha. And I do appreciate how Rohai helps with balance. To fear death is to limit life - Xin Sarith Azuma Phan Wuku
