Iron Arahat Posted June 18, 2002 Posted June 18, 2002 Eric Bischoff and Mark Burnett, the famed producer of Survivor, are teaming up to debut a reality based television show that will involve competition to determine the "toughest man in the world". Burnett, and Bischoff's company Battle Arts, will be working together to create the martial arts reality show that will incorporate several fighting disciplines into a competition that will see competitors eliminated on a weekly basis in a format familiar to fans of Survivor. Battle Arts represents some of the top martial arts experts in the world, and the show is expected to feature a mixture of kung fu, judo, karate, boxing, etc. The show will feature legitimate martial arts combatants in unscripted situations. Burnett and manager Conrad Riggs will join Bischoff and his Battle Arts associates Peter Levin and Jeremy Lappen as executive producers of the program. No network is set, and the show will be shopped to various broadcast and cable networks in the next few weeks. The news of the launch of the program will be featured in Friday's Variety and in other entertainment publications. Blade13 Posted June 19, 2002 Posted June 19, 2002 I heard something about this a few months back. I will definately be watching. It will give more publicity to MA, so thats a good thing. I dont like the "survivor" aspect though. That could cause some major false ideas of "what is the best martial art" based on who won.
ckdstudent Posted June 19, 2002 Posted June 19, 2002 Not could. I guarantee that it will. ---------Pil SungJimmy B
Taikudo-ka Posted June 19, 2002 Posted June 19, 2002 Bah, if its done by those guys the only thing you can guarantee is that it will be totally fake, completely unrealistic, and a bunch of boring arbitrary nonsense totally unrelated to real martial arts. (Just like the original "survivor" has absolutely jack to do with real wilderness survival... heck, a 10 year old cub scout could outlast any of those jokers if they were really lost in the bush somewhere) WWF meet Survivor - where you get to vote on who wins, not the management... Iron Arahat Posted June 20, 2002 Author Posted June 20, 2002 My guess is they will have a modern WMAC Masters program. Idiots running around in flashy getup fighting "ninjas". I'm sure it will be full of superstars like...nobody anyone knows. Martial Arts School http://www.shaolinwushu.cahttp://www.liveyyc.comCalgary Photographer: http://www.jdirom.com
SBN Doug Posted June 20, 2002 Posted June 20, 2002 Are you even sure it's going to include fighting? It my be as lame as they have to perform certain challenges. Obstacle course, etc. Kuk Sool Won - 4th danEvil triumphs when good men do nothing.
Bitseach Posted June 20, 2002 Posted June 20, 2002 The BBC did something like that about 6 months ago - it wasn't anything like an ultimate fighting contest or survivor, but pitched teams of martial artists of various disciplines against each other in different tasks, including a winner-stays-on sparring challenge and lots of physical feats, target nunchucks, balancing, strength, combat skills etc etc. It was quite good fun - not too gory or anything as it was before the watershed. Can't remember what they called it now, but it was good fun. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~My karma will run over your dogma~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Taikudo-ka Posted June 20, 2002 Posted June 20, 2002 TV has become SO lame lately (as if it even seemed possible just a few years ago)... KarateForums.com - Sempai
Blade13 Posted June 20, 2002 Posted June 20, 2002 Heck yeah! I started a thread on it, but no one seemed to care. I was watching it about 2 hours ago. They show reruns on TNN.
