Bitseach
Quite often on the boards people ask, "What's a ?????" and then many people helpfully answer them. I thought it might be useful to collate everyone's definitions into a dynamic glossary which could perhaps become a separate page (with alphabetical hyperlinks?) eventually and a reference source, esp as so many of us visit and represent so many MAs. It would be helpful if, when people are replying, they give their country and style of MA so that we can gauge whether something is local to an area or an art/style. Howabout we start with the basics: gi ki/chi kiai kimono obi zazen "oss" shotokan wado ryu hajime dojo kata migi ippon wazari maigeri keage kekomi age uke etc, etc. Only potential difficulty is that a definition collection such as this will inevitably involve many terms that will have been covered already in other threads, so I hope the moderators don't mind, as this could be a valuable summary. Please keep this thread for definitions and don't let it get off-topic too much! Eye of the Tiger
Basicly a martial arts database, with terminology and definitions of the arts. Hope they will recognise it. It would be very useful. Maybe you should contact Patrick. _________________ Kickboxer and Wado Ryu Karate SAMA Organisation Former black belt ECKA Karate 14 years old [ This Message was edited by: Eye of the Tiger on 2002-06-18 15:16 ]

Patrick
I plan to have a staff member be in charge of this, but you guys can start. I had in mind that it would be term and definition, but I suppose that might not work. SaiFightsMS
I lost my 300 term glossary when the hard drive had to be wiped last winter.
Patrick
Before we get too deep in this. Any suggestions on how it should be organized? Is by alphabetical order the way to do it? I am going to try to get with someone about writing a small script to handle it or we'll have to do it a harder way. Blade13
I think that it could be a long list organized by style. The styles could be listen in alphabetical order, and the terms would be listed in alphabetical order as well, under the style heading. I dont think we would need style descriptions. The link to kickboxing.com is enough, I think, since it has a lot of style descriptions. It would be a lot easier than having a separate page for each style's terms. Having the separate pages for each style would look more organized, but the long list would be easier to make, lol.
karatekid1975
It should be organized by language (not syle .....too many of them), then in alphabetical order. When you are ready, Patrick, I'll give ya a s**t load of Korean terms Laurie F
