Let me introduce myself to you all!

I'm from the northeast …about 2 hrs. from New York City.

I am female in my early 40's and I have trained in Tae Kwon Do for the past 10 years receiving my black belt degree on my 40th birthday. My only regret is that I did not start in the martial arts earlier in life.

I teach an aerobic/cardio kickboxing program at our dojo. I am certified through NAPMA . (go to web site to see Cardio Karate program http://www.napma.com).

This is the second bb I have signed onto. I also post on a "fitness" bb that incorporates

Martial arts as one of their topics under fitness discussions however I have had to become rather defensive with regards to how I instuct this kickboxing class to fitness instructors who have no clue how to properly perform a side kick.

Fitness professionals feel that we martial artists are trying to "cash in" on "aerobics" wherein I feel that I am teaching proper technique to people who walk in from the street with no formal martial arts training. I am not teaching them to be black belts mind you, just giving them a kick ass workout with the benefits of learning how to defend themselves without hurting themselves. Let's face it, there aren't too many people out there that have the discipline to start martial arts training let alone an exercise program!

Are there any other TKD schools out there offering this type of program? I would love to correspond with other instructors with regards to drills etc.

Hope to be posting much more in the future!

Peace,

deby

yeah, I suppose it is,

If you're going to be exercising

anyway, why not have the added benefit of self-defense training at the same time? But, since there is the added self-defense benefit that comes as a by-product

of the program, it also improves self-esteem and channels aggressiveness.

Many of our Black Belts take one or two classes a week in order to work on their cardiovascular endurance for sparring and /or tournament.

I think this functional aerobics is acquiring more and more people entering into formal martial arts training...(those who can handle the discipline involved that is).

Peace,

Deb

:wave:Hello. :wave:Happy to meet you. :pony:

I am roaming the boards meeting people. I am happy to meet you after reading many of your postings.

:weirdlook:I too came into the martial arts later in life than many here. I am 44 and did my shodan in shotokan and bo last summer. :uhoh:I think it kind of felt like a blur for a while too.

:pony:I really appreiate meeting other female martial artists regardless of style.

:eek:I tried cardio kickboxing but my ms really helped me throw off the timing and rhythm of anyone that was near me

 I look forward to reading many more of your posts.
