Rateh Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 Lol, it's not something that's taught, it just seems for me at least to be what happens. Basically when flexing your foot to make the "blade" my big toe automatically sticks up, I simply cannot make the blade without it. It's kinda like when you try and stick your ring finger up and it can't go straight up without your pinky and middle finger joining it. (it can go up almost straight with just the pinky or the middle, but it needs both to go up fully) Your present circumstances don't determine where you can go; they merely determine where you start. - Nido Qubein
gohardmma. Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Well i do an untraditional style of TSD. We don't teach a "side snap kick" as part of the curriculum, but we do teach the sidekick. is it the same thing? i notice that we call round house kicks round kicks in our school so i was wondering if it may be the same kind of thing. i did look at a few videos of side snap kicks online and a few examples look exactly like a side kick. if a side snap kick is in fact just a side kick, in TSD we do teach them and use them as a large part of our fighting. in fact we have a few drills that r devoted only to learning side kicking strategies.
joesteph Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 Soo Bahk Do and Tang Soo Do are very much related, and the side snap kick is the "approved" way of doing the side kick in SBD. When I've done the side kick with a different curve to get it into position, and so more of a thrusting kick, I've been corrected regarding that movement into the firing position. We don't teach a "side snap kick" as part of the curriculum, but we do teach the sidekick. is it the same thing? If you have your kicking leg hanging down like a front kick before you shoot it out, then it's the same snap kick as in Soo Bahk Do.If you curve your leg into chambering position, almost as though you were going to do a roundhouse, then it's likely what would be called a thrusting side kick. A really good thrusting side kick has, as one person posted regarding what is required of her in her art, the chamber such that a plate could be balanced on the raised kicking leg. ~ JoeVee Arnis Jitsu/JuJitsu

bushido_man96 Posted March 11, 2009 Author Posted March 11, 2009 It disappeared along with the cartilage in my knees! That's what I thought the few times I have seen examples of it in Karate styles. I think it would wreck my knees. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
