DWx Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Anyone heard about the new BMW? The BMW GINA looks pretty cool: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kTYiEkQYhWYWonder how it would survive a crash though. "Everything has its beauty, but not everyone sees it." ~ Confucius

NewEnglands_KyoSa Posted June 15, 2008 Posted June 15, 2008 looks sharp. BMW's usually have great ratings. "Smile. Show everyone that today you're stronger than you were yesterday."
KarateEd Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 That's an interesting car. I hadn't seen or heard of it before I clicked on your link. I think right at the beginning of the video he spoke of the frame as the real structural element, which made the fabric skin possible. It would probably fair just as well as any other car in crash tests. Ed

It would probably fair just as well as any other car in crash tests.Maybe it would. Usually though in cars you have panels that act as crumple zones and take the shock. Because the GINA can change shape like "grow" a spolier and headrests etc. I don't know rigid it is. "Everything has its beauty, but not everyone sees it." ~ Confucius
KarateEd Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 (edited) I guess it is basically a tube-frame car with fabric stretched over it (built kind of like the Maserati Tipo 61 ). It might be pretty rigid. Edited July 8, 2008 by KarateEd Ed
