pama4242 Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 Just wondering if there were some people on here training in Ryu Te and how they liked it? I know that Master Oyata is one of the greatest masters alive today. Thanks
BLueDevil Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 My teacher's teacher is Taika Seiyu Oyata, really amazing system. Very effective and painful There is no teacher but the enemy.

fleasome Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 Sorry to tag yet another post of yours....but.I've been in for 19 years and am lucky enough to train with Taika because I live close. Super lucky. I love the system and had limited experience prior to jumping headfirst into this style. Through 17 years of law enforcement I've had a lot of exposure to other systems, styles, etc and still think this is best for what I do in daily life and has saved my keester numerous times on the city streets.Lee Lee RichardsKenshukaiAn OyataTe International School

fleasome Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 (edited) Yes there is plenty of You Tube footage out there. Search for Oyata. If it is videos you seek, Taika currently has 13 videos for sale. These have been around for quite a while so they are still on VHS. They essentially breakdown a basic "foundation" version of each kata then more of an intermediate/advanced version. Then they go into bunkai, taking excerpts from the kata and making some unwitting students make funny faces as Taika demonstrates taking pieces out of the kata and using them on the happy little students. These are the first 12 open hand kata in this system. The 13th tape is pretty much just the fun make funny faces tape where you get to see many people contort their bodies and faces much to their chagrin.http://www.ryu-te-supplies.com/1) Naihanchi Shodan2) Naihanchi Nidan3) Naihanchi Sandan4) Tomari Seisan5) Pinan Shodan6) Pinan Nidan7) Pinan Sandan Pinan Yondan9) Pinan Godan10) Pasai11) Kusanku12) Ni Sei Shi13) Kyusho TechniquesLee Edited July 25, 2008 by fleasome Lee RichardsKenshukaiAn OyataTe International School

TexasMike Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 BLueDevil,I live in Amarillo, TX and have been training under Taika Seiyu Oyata for 26 years. There are only two RyuTe schools here. One is only open to dan rank RyuTe members. The other is my school. It's not listed in the phone book and only takes students word-of-mouth.
