bigsouthpaw6 Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 On average how often does one legitimately progress to the next belt level in judo. Also on average how often does one legitimately progress to the next belt level in jiu-jitsu?
glockmeister Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 In BJJ it is usually an average of 18 months from white to blue, about another two and a half years from blue to purple, 2 and a half from purple to brown and then an average of three from brown to black. That was from my instructor just today. keep in mind this is just average and that is for RGDA. Other BJJ schools, it may be different, it has a lot to do also with documented mat time.In Judo it has a lot more to do with competitions at least where I train so set times is difficult to say. bigsouthpaw6 Posted June 3, 2008 Author Posted June 3, 2008 Thanks for the info. I never realized jiu-jitsu could take that long! Now another question I've heard judo has gotten rid of the competing to belt up requirement. Is this true? If so is there a average set time frame?

I'm at a Pedro Sauer school and it's the same type of time system. "It is impossible to make anything foolproof because fools are so ingenius."

At least not at the moment. Competitions are still required. "You know the best thing about pain? It let's you know you're not dead yet!"http://geshmacheyid.forumotion.com/f14-self-defense
