rabid hamster Posted June 15, 2002 Posted June 15, 2002 what's the diff between point sparring and freestyle sparring? It is only with the heart that one can see clearly, for the most essential things are invisible to the eye.
Taikudo-ka Posted June 15, 2002 Posted June 15, 2002 Well in point sparring you'd be going for point scoring moves, and there are probably a lot of illegal moves. More like a sport. Freestyle sparring, as the name indicates, would be pretty much anything goes. At my dojo this means grabbing, grappling, low kicks, etc are all fair game. (but not going out of control, or scratching and biting, obviously). The aim is not to injure the opponent, but to try whatever techniques you want against a resisting opponent, who in turn can do whatever they want for defense/counter attack, rather than worrying about trying to "win". Withers M.A.A. Posted June 15, 2002 Posted June 15, 2002 Point sparring is almost like a game of tag. When you hit the person you get a point and you stop. Freestyle sparring if you hit the person you keep going. Freestyle resembles more realistic fighting on the street. It will help you put combinations together so you hit your opponent multiple times not just once.
