DWx Posted May 16, 2008 Author Posted May 16, 2008 I would love to watch them, too. But I am referring to the layperson who attends and watches the Olympic games.I think there could be a fair few.. Forms would appear to be like events such as gymnastics, trapolining diving etc. where perfect form is more important than how far or how fast. All these events are watched by people who don't do them. For a layperson watching something like Juche or Moon-moo (I'm not familiar with WTF Poomsae) they look pretty impressive if done properly and I think it would be interesting to introduce the general public to some sort of form aspect. bushido_man96 Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 I hope that you are right. I would be all for it, for sure. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
DWx Posted September 15, 2008 Author Posted September 15, 2008 ITF/WTF held another meeting, details of which are on the ITF website: https://www.itftkd.org (on the right of the homepage). "Everything has its beauty, but not everyone sees it." ~ Confucius
tenshinka Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 I would love to see what kind of compromise comes out of this deal. I wonder if a new form set would come about, or take this form and that form and create the curriculum. Vere curious, indeed.I know that the General wanted to have "One Tae Kwon-Do"...however, to be honest, I hope that they DO NOT merge...it would be a mess (sheesh, there is already what 3 ITF's), and only cause more factions, who would break away from ITF and/or WTF, and form their own groups. ITF is a great style, Kukki TKD is nice as well (when done properly), but they are different for sure...Combining the two would be like mixing coffee and tea...I like them both, but prefer them separate.fwiw,--josh

Through this opportunity, both sides have confirmed the common views on the fundamental principles of Taekwon-Do Power...Both sides tried their best at this meeting to seek the way to unify the rules of Sparring throughout the tournament rules of each side and agreed to make it more details at the next Session. tonydee Posted June 27, 2009 Posted June 27, 2009 The problem is, I can't see the WTF gaining a whole lot out of this deal. I think that the ITF stands to gain the most. It would open up more competition for their practitioners, especially at the International level, I think. If they could get forms into the Olympics, then I think that would be kind of cool. I don't know how many spectators would be into watching a forms competition, though.I think what the WTF has to gain is some evidence of progress, change and inclusiveness, and possible consequent increased audience/sponsor interest levels, to help encourage the Olympic committee not to ditch sports taekwondo....It certainly could change the balance of power within the ITF forks, though it's hard to say how.I know that the General wanted to have "One Tae Kwon-Do"Yes, the Major-General did want that, but being the cynic I am, I can't help asking whether it was more about politics. By publicly backing some reconciliation between North and South - even way back when the idea was quite unpopular - he made himself appear a spokesman of vision, above the pettiness of his own times. I think that fits in with his feeble attempts at incorporating some Confucian ethics and junior-high school physics into his teachings (as per the Encyclopedia).however, to be honest, I hope that they DO NOT merge...it would be a mess (sheesh, there is already what 3 ITF's), and only cause more factions, who would break away from ITF and/or WTF, and form their own groups. ITF is a great style, Kukki TKD is nice as well (when done properly), but they are different for sure...Combining the two would be like mixing coffee and tea...I like them both, but prefer them separate. There're practically different arts, and I can't see students of either wanting to do the other's forms. Why would all the champions and successful instructors on either side want rule changes that might suddenly relegate them to "also rans"? Or organisational changes where they might not be at the top calling the shots? Those people are often the ones with a lot of students, and hence money flow and clout. For them to go with it, they have to be involved in the process, so that they feel they've had an inside advantage in favouring the things they're good at and saving face, having their names stamped in TKD history. Those who don't get things their way, whose names are proclaimed as pioneers of the union, will split off.Cheers,Tony
