Treebranch
This will sound like a stupid question, but does anyone know if any submissions while in someones guard exist? Is it even possible?Something worth exploring?Your thoughts please. Rainbow_Warrior
I know just one from closed guard , and a something inside the open guard .1)From the closed guard You have to be very close to the guy :Elbows together (close as possible, paralel arms ideal) on his chest , grab the back of the head , and do LEVERAGE ! Like a biceps curl.2) From the open guard (without going outside de guard either )you raise a knee , and grab the feet- same side raised knee- with one hand by the toes and other hand in the ankle , it will look similar to americana. With the mentioned grip , twist the feet and take it to the back/buttocks of the rival.Normally , the guy would flip and lean on his chest because the painPD :From the open guard you also have normal ankle lock and external and internal feet locks...But , these subs ends outside the guard. ´´ The evil may win a round , but not the fight ´´
Treebranch
Yeah, I guess from the closed guard the neck crank is one of the few which usually makes them open the guard. I just think it's worth more exploration. There may be only a few subs from there, but it would be interesting to try to find some. There's a few set ups for foot locks from the closed guard, but I like to explore this until I feel it's futile. Like a biceps curl. This is typically called the can opener. The only weakness about it is if the guy simply opens unlocks his guard it no longer causes pain. It's a good way to get someone to open though. Better for no-gi. With the gi, the opponent can get good grabs on your lapels while you do it.Generally speaking, there are no good submissions to apply from inside a person's guard. This is due to the fact that the opponent controls your hips. You have limited ability to apply pressure to them and you have limited mobility. Treebranch
Yeah I know, but maybe there's something we are all missing. I'm going to see if I can come up with something. It would be great if someone comes up with something that can be used. This could change the sport. glockmeister
One that is very effective. and I use it often, it is the Ezekiel choke although it must be done with a gi. You wrap one arm around the back of his head while you are in his closed guard, you grab the inside of your opposite hand's sleave, 4 fingers in grip, while holding that with say, your right hand, you take the left hand and cross over the front of the person's throat and now grab the inside of you right hand's sleave, and pull them both tight while turning your forearms in against the throat. very nasty choke. You'll be swept and mounted. It's not good to do while in the guard. Not trying to be overyly negative, the Ezekiel is a good choke. Just not from inside the guard of someone who knows how to grapple well. "It is impossible to make anything foolproof because fools are so ingenius."
