SaiFightsMS
There was a kata named kitte that was created specifically for tournament competition. It's purpose was to give students from all styles an even footing. Does anyone know where a walk through description of this kata can be found? Karateka
I haven't heard of that Kata either. Do you know where you heard of the kata. Any sources? I would be greatly interested in learning it. SaiFightsMS
Here is what I read first about it a while back in a mailing list. Kitte was a kata created circa 1988 (? not sure of the date) by the senior ITKF people from different styles, I believe Shotokan, ****o ryu and Goju, for a competition called Fukugo. In fukugo competition, competitors are paired off and in the first round perform Kitte side by side, judges call a winner (red or white flag), and the winner advances to the next round. The next round is kumite, followed by another round of Kitte, with the final two advancing to the final kumite round. Since Kitte was not a traditional kata from any one style it was supposed to provide a level playing field for competitors of different styles. I like the idea behind this competition as it eliminates the "specialists" in either kata or kumite, and the best overall karate-ka win.
Tobias_Reece
The only problem is the flag system - possibly the worst idea ever created on the competition circuit. Flags pitch karateka against karateka in direct contact aand elimination. This means that if the 1st and 2nd best people in the catagory go first, the 2nd best person actually comes last. If that makes sense........ But I can't change the rules, all I can do is not impliment them...hee hee "You Are Never Given A Dream Without Also Being Given The Power To Make It True.
