yingampyang
I didn't know where to put this so bare with me. There is an old question about martial arts that has been around for many years. I already know the answer but i wanted your answers and your opinions. "If there is a man with a gun standing 1 km away from you and he has it loaded and aimed perfectly at you. How do you defend youself?" I think that there is no 1 style , and that to truly become a great martial artist and person you must take information from where ever you can. Zanshin
I didn't know where to put this so bare with me. There is an old question about martial arts that has been around for many years. I already know the answer but i wanted your answers and your opinions. "If there is a man with a gun standing 1 km away from you and he has it loaded and aimed perfectly at you. How do you defend youself?"It takes one hell of a marksman and a serious peice of kit to hit you from over half a mile a way, but for the sake of the post, is the answer "put your hands up" or something like that.Cant say I have been caught in a snippers cross hair that recently. yingampyang
good try but no thats not the answer. If you look into the history of the monks and ZEN you will find the answer. If you look into the history of the monks and ZEN you will find the answer.Hmm.Not really into the "Zen" and the whole spiritual enlightenment thing really, but am looking forward to the answer. tori
Isn't a km like 3700 feet away? How would I know that someone that far away has a gun aimed at me and why would I be standing still so long for him to shoot me? Live life, train hard, but laugh often. cross
"If there is a man with a gun standing 1 km away from you and he has it loaded and aimed perfectly at you. How do you defend youself?"Im interested to hear the zen answer also, but ill add some thoughts for now:Its been mentioned by Zanshin already that it would take a very skilled/accurate/lucky shooter to shoot you in a vital target(let alone shoot you at all) from that distance, depending on the type of gun they have. And short of running in the opposite direction as fast as possible, there isnt a great deal you can do physically to defend yourself. Unless you are within range to touch the person holding the gun, you dont really have any physical options other than running, if you are close enough to talk to them you can draw them closer using psychological tactics, but from a distance of 1km you would likely not even be able to see the person clearly. So more importantly(in my opinion) is to find out how you got into this position to start with? Is there a contract out on you because you messed with the wrong person?(in which case you are as good as dead if the person is a skilled shooter, you likely wouldnt see them, or the bullet coming until its to late). Is the person mentally unstable and you are just a random target?

yingampyang
Everyone who has spoken about the variables my i remind you that this question is approx. 350 years old of course they didn't have guns back then but wat ever was around is wat was put into the question. clue: think about it more as reaction time and not as the gun its self.
